Winergy Hydro Gear Units
Overview
Winergy Hydro Gear Units are precision-engineered gearboxes from Winergy AG (part of ZF Group, Germany) designed specifically for medium to large hydropower applications using Francis, Kaplan, and Pelton turbines. With power ratings from 5 MW to 100+ MW, these units deliver high torque transmission, minimal losses, and decades-long reliability—making them ideal for India’s run-of-river, reservoir-based, and high-head hydro projects.
Key Features
- Turbine Compatibility:
- Francis: Medium-head (30–300m), medium-flow
- Kaplan: Low-head (2–30m), high-flow
- Pelton: High-head (150–1800m), low-flow
- Gear Design:
- Parallel shaft or right-angle configurations
- Single or multi-stage helical/planetary gearing
- High Efficiency: >98% mechanical efficiency with optimized oil circulation
- Robust Construction:
- Forged steel gears, case-hardened surfaces
- Double helical gears for axial load balancing
- Integrated Monitoring: Vibration sensors, oil temperature/debris detection, SCADA-ready
- Cooling & Lubrication: Forced lubrication with oil-water or oil-air coolers
Technical Highlights
- Power Range: 5 MW – 100+ MW
- Input Speed: 60–1000 rpm (turbine-dependent)
- Output Speed: Synchronized to generator (typically 750–1500 rpm)
- Service Life: 40+ years with proper maintenance
- Certifications: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IEC 60034, DNV-GL (for critical projects)
Ideal Applications
- Run-of-river projects (Himalayan states: Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand)
- Reservoir-based plants (Central & South India)
- High-head Pelton installations (Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh)
- Modernization of legacy hydro stations (NHPC, SJVN, state GENCOs)
